Not long after George Carver was born, and following the end of the American civil war in 1865, slavery was outlawed. What we do know is that the farm he was born on, in Diamond, Missouri, belonged to a white man called Moses Carver. He also championed crop rotation and agricultural education.īorn into slavery in the early 1860s, Carver’s exact date of birth is unknown. Were it not for his agricultural experiments and discoveries, the South could not have survived. The corrupt system of slavery that damaged the American conscience for so many years, brought great harm to George and his race.Įven after he gained his freedom and became a genius in science, technology and agriculture, George was treated with less dignity than his white peers.īut George Washington Carver served God, not man, and he showed remarkable kindness toward the Southern culture that had brought him such harm.
